Mercury Leather Works
Born and raised on the Central Coast of California and while still in high school, Trajan Vieira of Mercury Leather Works began working alongside his father, Richard Vieira, repairing saddles and horse gear. Five years later, in 1999, he move on to the historic J.M. Capriola shop in Elko, Nevada and had the opportunity to work with Eddie Brooks making custom saddles.
Several road trips through Montana and Wyoming and a visit to the iconic Sheridan leather show introduced Trajan to the Big Horn Basin. A job opportunity at Seidel’s Saddlery in 2001 brought him to Cody and the pretty girl who worked the store below the saddle shop convinced him to call Wyoming his home.
Both California’s historic Rose Parade as well as local parades introduced Trajan to the beauty and craftsmanship of Bohlin silver and saddles.
Debuted at the 2016 National Finals Rodeo, a collaboration between Mercury Leather Works and the Edward H. Bohlin Company combined to produce the first Bohlin silver mounted parade saddle in over thirty-five years. Titled, “Legado del Jefe,” this one of a kind saddle was well-received by both contemporary and dyed-in-the-wool vintage Bohlin saddle collectors.
Today, Mercury Leather Works and our team of craftsmen specializes in bespoke boots, handmade belts and custom saddles with a special focus on crafting private label belts for Bohlin’s historic line of silver and for contemporary silver artists like Clint Orms and Ernie Marsh.
We are proud to offer a selection of Bohlin made sterling buckles and accessories along with Marsh Brothers custom silver plus the unique collection of Read Wilson gun-engraved titanium jewelry and accessories.
Mercury Leather Works and the Vieira family would like extend an invitation to visit the shop located in Cody, Wyoming at 1034 13th Street, just a stone’s throw from Edward H. Bohlin’s original 1918 shop. Artfully decorated, the connected showroom, studio and working shop bring the craftsmen close to the public.
